Stumbled over this site...

Which is kind of ironic, considering what I just went through. I hope story-posting is allowed, but if not, feel free to delete it with my apologies.

Do you remember what we promised when we met my love?
There would never be a reason for regret my love.
Bad news has come to town, but news flies up and down
That another you have found to lie with you, my love.

If the wind could whisper by that it's not true my love,
And the seas could rise and cry that it's not you my love.
If the hills could only say that you were on your way
Then happy I would stay and be with you, my love.

Every night I light a light for your return my love,
But the morning light's a lesson to be learned my love.
That I who learned to trust have been betrayed and must
Forever more be cursed for wanting you, my love.

Remember what we promised when we met my love?
There would never be a reason for regret my love.
But I who learned to trust have been betrayed and must
Forever more be cursed for wanting you my love.

I met this young woman, Amber, in March while training in Fort Jackson, SC. We were both in the same course and were attracted to each other from the start. By the end of the 2-month program, we were ready to start a relationship. After I got home I drove to Cali to see her, right before she moved to Fort Carson, CO. We spent almost a week together, I met her family, there were good times. I've always been one to fall hard and fast, so things were looking really good to me.

Over the next few weeks, we kept in touch through e-mails and phone calls. I was Army National Guard out of Arizona, she was Active Army in Fort Carson. I would have moved up there in a heartbeat, but my unit was slated to go to the Middle East in August and I was locked into it. This didn't bother either of us too much, though. She sent cards, poetry, etc. Then one day around july/August, it stopped. My phone calls were unanswered, my emails unread. It was as if she fell off of the face of the earth. For a time, I was afraid that something had happened to her.

So fast forward to two months ago. I'm now in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. I'm talking with a chaplain assistant here from Carson, and she mentions she knows Amber. She doesn't volunteer any info though, so I let it slide and just hurt quietly for a while. Fast forward to last week, and I'm talking to another chaplain assistant from Carson that replaced the previous one. He tells me the whole story, how this one guy's wife found Amber's skirt in their apartment last July/August. Apparently, they got a divorce and now Amber is engaged to him. There's more, but you get the picture. Ouch.

So there's my story.
